I had a looooooong think about what is written below. Anyway… Dr White writes… The original article is here. It’s that time of year again. We’re going to lose weight, exercise more, get out of debt, stick to a budget, stop smoking, save for the future and spend more time with family. We make resolutions because we want to bring change to bear on our circumstances. We want to improve ourselves and our quality of life. And the top resolutions, for most people, tend to revolve around the same three poles: money, health and family. But what would a set of New Year’s resolutions look like for you and your church, your role as a leader, or simply as someone who wants to live a life of strategic Kingdom investment? Though many more could be added, here are 15 to consider: 1. Pray more. So he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD … ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty ( Zechariah [...]

I came across this Blog by Dr James Emery White at Crosswalk.com. Dr White is the founding and senior pastor of Mecklenburg Community Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. I enjoy what he writes; and this article is no different. You don’t have to know who the personalities are to understand what Dr White is getting at. The original article is here! Ask.com recently presented their top 10 predictions for 2012, based on the top trending questions posed by their 60 million users from January 1 – November 15, 2011. If you keep up with “top searches” on the internet, you won’t be surprised by its pop culture bent: George Clooney wins his second and third Academy Award. Dr. Oz surpasses Dr. Phil in ratings in a post-Oprah world. Green Bay Packers win Super Bowl for second time in a row. McDonald’s adds the McRib to its permanent menu. New York reclaims its spot as top US travel destination from 2011 leader Orlando. Breakout star of 2011, Nicki Minaj, leapfrogs pop icon Katy Perry in album sales. Pippa jumps onto the list of Top 10 baby names of the year. Facebook goes public with world’s largest IPO. Tiger Woods retires [...]

It’s for all of life. And at the same time, there is a uniqueness to the event of corporate worship. Meeting with the church in praise and prayer is a means of grace to which we should avail ourselves. We should maximize its meaning. This is the subject of John Piper’s seminar on corporate worship recently held in November. The seminar is divded into three sessions, plus an hour of Q&A with Pastor John and Bob Kaufin. NOVEMBER 26 That Lovin’ Feeling May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine. SONG OF SOLOMON 1:2 When Barbara and I were working on our book Rekindling the Romance, I went online and typed "romance" in the Google search engine. Guess how many of the top 10 sites listed were for married couples? One! Makes you wonder if romance has become an endangered experience after marriage. Is it like the way the late comedian Minnie Pearl put it? "Gettin’ married’s a lot like gettin’ into a tub of hot water," she said. "After you get used to it, it ain’t so hot." Believe me, it doesn’t have to be that way. Sure, there are a lot of barriers to romance in your marriage—primarily the hectic pace of your lives. But you married each other to become intimate partners, not traffic controllers, and that requires time just being [...]

R. Albert Mohler Jr. October 28, 2011 [Note: The following post originally ran on http://www.albertmohler.com/. It represents an excellent call to fathers to protect their sons and daughters from becoming enslaved to the screen.] We are now the people of the screen. We are surrounded by screens, monitors, and other flickering devices, and each demands our attention. What began with the television has now spread to a host of other technologies. Our minds are increasingly shaped, entertained, informed, stimulated, and perhaps even altered by the Age of the Screen – and so are the minds of our children. The American Academy of Pediatrics, meeting this week in Boston, expressed concern about the effects of exposure to screens on children. Over a decade ago, the academy proposed that pediatricians should ask questions about screen exposure when conducting routine medical exams and evaluations. Just this week, the groups adopted a new set of guidelines, calling upon parents to put severe limits on the exposure of young children to television. Parents should pay close attention to the group’s statement, released as “Media Use by Children Younger than Two Years.” According to the AAP, 90 percent of parents reported that their children under the [...]

I was sorting out telephone numbers on my telephone and came across the number of Avril Clark. The name won’t mean much to most people, except a select few who know her to be the mother of PTE Jamie CLARK who was sadly killed in a tragic accident in the Solomon Islands in 2005 as part of the ADF peace effort. We held a Memorial service here the next year. What is remarkable is the way that Avril has used the pain and sadness of loss to achieve so much. Her continued relationship with the local Solomon Islanders has led to the building and opening of the Private Jamie Clark Memorial Kindergarten Opening. In many ways Jamie is considered a local ‘son’; in fact in my mind a fallen hero!
